hi, i have dowload maps and campaigns but, when i saw .vpk files, i dbl clik on it but i don't have any programs who automaticli instal it. it asks me if i want to check on internet if there is on apropriate (there isn't) WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO, i don't know how to do to open it whith steam

You have to download a specif program to install additional maps from steam main page.

http://supportwiki.steampowered.com/it/Installare_Steam
it's italian but you can chose all you want.
After that the double click will be available according to this program.

hi
right click on your vpk file
(i have a french version of window, and i just translate the french menu …)
click on "open with"
then "choose defaut program"
browse and go to : ../steam/steamapps/common/left 4 dead/bin
and select "addoninstaller.exe"
for finish check the box : "always use selected progam for open this file type".
click on ok ….

I did everything blacky_fr says but after it tries to open the vpk it says " 'Pitstop' v5 was not installed. It is possible that the add-on is already installed and in use" what am i supposed to do?

I get the exact same issues, "XXXXX" was not installed. It is possible that the add-on is already installed and in use.
X=the add-on name

I have verified the game caches of both the addon support under the tools menu, as well as Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2, to no avail. does anyone have ANY suggestions?

placing the .vpk files directly into the addon folder works SOMETIMES, but I still get the window that says I need to visit the website to download the .vpk file on random maps.

will someone please help with this topic? i am having the same problem on one of my computers but not the other. on the one that works it says for type of file 'Source Game Add-on (vpk) and on the other computer it says for type of file 'vpk file (.vpk)' both computers have windows 7 so not much difference. help us please

i have a vpk file for left 4 dead skin and it show as a white paper and i have addoninstaller. i have install it and in the game i saw it was checked and in gameplay it won't show the skin i have installed
